COVID-19 Response

2020 was a year of struggle, adjustment, and perseverance. There is no doubt that life hit us with a huge wave of uncertainty, but Tankproof took this as an opportunity to listen to our community and meet their needs during COVID-19.

Community Food Activations

The pandemic has brought many struggles to companies and individuals across the world. Local businesses were closing their doors and the lack of food available for families seemed to grow every day. Typically, the school system serves breakfast and lunch to enrolled students and for some children, it's the only food they get. Along with the many downsides of COVID-19, it was devastating that children were not receiving proper nutrients due to the school system being closed.

Tankproof did not let the pandemic halt the continuance of its mission! Wearing masks and practicing social distancing, we were fortunate enough to feed families in need and support local businesses. Our team is beyond grateful to have volunteers and donors providing us the help and supplies needed to make this happen.

Along with our impact in Louisiana, we held food-focused community activations monthly in the East Austin area. It is always an honor coming together to provide for the under-served communities, especially during this trying time.

Tankproof Toy Drive

In order to bring forth holiday cheer, we held two toy drives, one in Austin and one in Baton Rouge. The turnout was nothing short of amazing! Striving to inject love into the community, the joy found on children’s faces when they picked out their choice of toy was priceless.

Sinking the Stats

Even amongst a pandemic, drowning and the importance of water-safety is still prevalent, therefore Tankproof had to adapt to the new measures put in place to continue making a difference in the world.

Through research and staying up to date with recent news and regulations, we have felt that it is safe to continue offering our free swim lessons to those who need it most.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control) has suggested that it is safe to swim with others because the virus cannot be transmitted in chlorinated water (read more here). We will only be partnering with pools that are properly chlorinated and kept clean, and Tankproof will consistently follow CDC guidelines and maintain precaution of our staff, volunteers, and students.

Things looked different this past year, but we were grateful to continue educating the youth on water safety and life-saving skills in summer 2020.

Our swim season typically begins in May and ends the first week of August. With the lockdown in March, all our hopes for that summer seemed out of reach. Luckily in June, we were able to carry out our mission by beginning summer lessons in Austin. Instructors utilized face shields in the pool, in order to ensure safety of the children and our organization. By wearing clear face coverings, we were still able to show our students how much we enjoy what we do!

Although 2020 was nothing we could have ever prepared for, Tankproof was fortunate enough to continue to serve those who needed it the most. We are optimistic for summer 2021 and look forward to continuing our work within the community!
